The Right To Shower donates 60,000 units of hygiene items to our community partners, providing 10,000 hygiene kits to our unhoused neighbors across the country.

COVID-19 poses a real threat to unhoused communities because are at greater risk of contracting and spreading the virus due to limited hygiene access. To help aid mobile hygiene providers in the United States, our partner The Right To Shower has donated thousands of critical hygiene supplies to 22 of our mobile hygiene partners from Hawaii to Boston.

The Right To Shower organized donations from other brands, resulting in kits containing The Right To Shower soap, Bombas socks, Schmidt’s Naturals deodorant and toothpaste, Q-tips®, and handwritten messages from various individuals through their #TheRightToConnection campaign.

"When we first started creating our Dignity Kits, it was during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when it was difficult to garner support and donations as we were all still trying to wrap our heads around this crisis.” said Merlynn Watanabe of Think Dignity San Diego, “What really touched us was the fact that LavaMaeˣ, Unilever, and The Right to Shower immediately jumped in to offer their support by donating over 5,000 hygiene products, which ensured that we would reach our goal of distributing 1,000 Dignity Kits to homeless San Diegans.”

Because of COVID-19 many service organizations have had to dramatically cut their programming to maintain physical distancing, making it even harder for our unhoused neighbors to access services and supplies. By delivering these hygiene kits, guests in our mobile hygiene network are able to accommodate for a much higher demand of hygiene items requested by guests.

“We are incredibly thankful for Shower Power NYC's commitment to health through good hygiene and can't say THANK YOU enough for packing 1,000 hygiene kits that went immediately to use by Rescue Alliance organizations that serve our homeless community,” said Brian Moll, Executive Director or Rescue Alliance, “We are in a public health crisis that is exacerbated for those living on the street. As restaurants, coffee shops, and NYC gyms have been closed, our homeless friends have almost nowhere to go to clean up. The hygiene kits play a crucial role in recognizing and affirming the dignity of all people, and give everyone using the products inside an opportunity to stay safe and clean during the crisis.”

During these uncertain times, we all need to come together to address these problems, talk about it, and become part of the solution. The key to doing that is through Radical Hospitality, to deliver these services and solve problems with an extraordinary level of care, and to use this as an opportunity to connect with guests and understand how we can continue to support them during this challenging time. We’re in this for the long run and Radical Hospitality is needed now more than ever, especially for our neighbors living on the street.
