LavaMaeˣ Distributes 1,000 COVID-19 Hygiene Kits to Our Unhoused Neighbors

April 22, 2020

Every week since the end of March, we've been creating and distributing COVID-19 hygiene kits to our partners and neighbors on the street. To date we've provided 1,000+ kits to our guests in San Francisco, Oakland, and Los Angeles.

Each kit contain face coverings, sanitizer, wipes, and other essential hygiene items along with health information about the COVID-19 virus.

While handing out the kits, we chatted with some of our guests as asked how they were doing:

"It's people like you who keep us afloat."

"The hardest part is that all the stores are closed. I understand why though and they'll open again soon. It's a good thing. I can still get meals down at the SPCA"

"I just got over COVID-19. I was feeling really terrible and ran out of my tent one night gasping for air. I am so relived to be feeling better now and everyone keeps telling me how great I look now."

St. George Spirits provides support.

With hand sanitizer supplies running thin, local distilleries such as St. George Spirits in Alameda are stepping up to produce their own and increase supply for their community. Our neighbor St. George Spirits made a generous donation of sanitizer to LavaMaeˣ for our COVID-19 response.

Their commitment to our local community, and supporting our unhoused neighbors during this unprecedented time, makes them our heroes. For that, we raise our glass with gratitude.

Donate to our COVID-19 response and help us purchase essentials for these kits, such as alcohol swipes and face coverings.

Our guests are in desperate need of drinking water. If you are able to donate bottles of water as part of our distribution, please e-mail us at info@lavamaex.org.
